Metro’s residents gear up for service delivery march

Metro’s residents gear up for service delivery march.

Ekurhuleni residents are currently arriving by the busload, just outside the Marathon informal settlement in Primrose, before heading off to hand over a memorandum to officials at the Germiston Civic Centre.

People from areas including; Primrose, Buhle Park, Palm Ridge and Klippoortje, are joining the protest.

The police told the GCN earlier that it was not an EFF affiliated march, but upon arriving at the scene, almost everyone was sporting an EFF T-shirt.

“We also believe there are other affiliations among the protesters,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Currently, the protesters are being registered and it is not known when the march will kick-off.

Spirits are high at the gathering point and one marcher told the GCN they are marching to demand their houses back.

“Zuma has taken our land and homes and given us RDP houses, we want our own houses back,” she said.

More details will follow once they become available.
