The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is urging residents and visitors shopping in the area to be on the alert.
“The last few weeks saw cars stolen all around, including from the under-cover parking area at one of the shopping centres,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF.
“Make sure your car is properly locked before leaving to do shopping, as some criminals are in possession of ‘jammers’.
”They wait for you to press the remote and then simultaneously press the jammer, thus jamming your signal and leaving your car unlocked and accessible to them.”When drawing or depositing money at any ATM, make sure to secure your PIN number at all times; don’t accept any help from strangers and, if you feel insecure, call upon a security guard as, most of the time, they are posted in these areas.
“Beware of anybody flanking you while drawing or depositing money, as the modus operandi is for one to be watching you and will push you aside, drawing money out of your account to the maximum the moment you enter your PIN, while another will threaten you with a knife or firearm,” said Pienaar.
“Never use an ATM alone at night where there are no people around.
“Always be vigilant and keep a watchful eye.”
The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is urging the community/households to join up and become members — a radio in the household could become a lifeline for you.
“Make sure that all crimes are reported to the SAPS and also forwarded to the info e-mail or info line cellphone number of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF.
“The unit also needs more patrollers, as visibility is of utmost importance; we don’t dictate what times you patrol as it is a voluntary service.
“As a patroller you will undergo an induction course, be vetted and patrol with a qualified patroller before you will be given identification decals and start patrolling.
“We also invite community members/residents to come on a drive along with a patroller to see what it all entails,” said Pienaar.
The next Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF meeting will take place on June 11, at 7pm, at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, in Webber Road, Lambton.
