A paper recycler made a gruesome discovery on Thursday, while searching in a big dustbin near the Germiston Railway Station.
He discovered a shoebox in the bin and, upon opening it, found the lifeless body of a newborn baby.
He immediately contacted the Germiston SAPS who rushed to the scene.
Capt George Raphulu, communications officer for the Germiston police, is appealing to the community to come forward with information which could lead the police to discovering the identity of the mother.
