Liesel Kruger shared her frustrating daily commute with the GCN.
“I drive through Germiston’s CBD every day,” she said.
“All the roads in and around have been worked on and big trenches dug across the roads.
“They have tried to fill these trenches with sand but it doesn’t help.”
Kruger, like many other residents, would like to know when the roads will be fixed properly.
The GCN sent a query to the Ekurhuleni Metro and received the following response:
“The on-going project in the metro will be completed in June 2016,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.
Gadebe claims the metro’s contractors were not responsible for the trenches dug across roads such as Meyer and President streets.
“The people responsible for the trenches are Eskom and/or Dark Fibre,” he explained.
“The roads department will be following up with these contractors as they did not comply with their way-leave conditions.”
