A recent two-day operation conducted by members of the Germiston cluster stations, EMPD officers and personnel was a great success.
During the operations 361 people and 85 vehicles were searched.
More than 500 crime safety-tip pamphlets were distributed and traffic fines issued.
In addition, the following arrests were made:
- Illegal immigrants: 59
- Housebreaking and theft: 1
- Possession of housebreaking implements: 2
- Common assault 2
Cluster commander Brig Phumla Mdlankomo thanked everyone who contributed to these arrests.
“I encourage members to double their efforts and to make this cluster the safest place in the province,” she said.
Most suspects have already appeared in the Germiston and Alberton Magistrates Courts, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
Some will appear in court again soon.
The illegal immigrants will be sent to Lindela for deportation.
