A local liquor store employee was shocked when he witnessed a woman shoplifting.
“He claims he was watching the store’s CCTV camera feed when he noticed the woman (40) taking a bottle of alcohol off the shelf and putting it in her handbag,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
The employee informed his boss, who asked a female security guard to stop the woman and search her handbag before she left the store.
“During the search the security guard found two 750ml bottles of rum, a chicken braai pack, BBQ spice and rolls.
“She was unable to produce proof of purchase for any of the items,” Maome said.
The accused was arrested on Monday, September 21, and detained at the Primrose Police Station.
She has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court on charges of theft.
