Residents of Lambton are becoming increasingly concerned with a house on the corner of Webber and Chapman roads.
Several residents have call the GCN and reported that the house has been abandoned for months and is now being occupied by vagrants.
The house is also reportedly being used by criminals.
Residents do not feel safe and want to know what, if anything, can be done about the house and its new occupants.
The GCN has contact both the metro and the Germiston SAPS regarding the house.
WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS, said: “I have been through all the crime stats for the last two weeks and no crime was committed in and or around the abandoned house.”
Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, said: “An inspection was conducted recently at the house.
“The premises is not overgrown or in bad condition.
“A contractor has been appointed to cut and remove the overgrown grass and weeds in the future.”
No comment was made on the vagrants reportedly living in the house.
Ward councillor Chris Swanepoel said, “The matter
is in hand and will be finalised in the near future.
“Sufficient to
say, the metro departments are working on the matter and assisting the public in trying to finalise the matter in the very near future.”
