Vandals cause power outage

Acts of vandalism affect power supply to parts of Germiston.

The metro’s technicians are currently on site carrying out repair work following an act of vandalism at the Actom Road substation in Germiston.

This has left residents and businesses without power since last night.

Two transformers at the substation have been damaged and have lost approximately 20 000 litres of oil.

This has resulted in a power supply interruption to the following areas:

  • Wadeville;
  • Castleview;
  •  Estera;
  • Dinwiddie; and
  • Albemarle.

Technicians are working around the clock to ensure that power is restored by midnight.

Residents are reminded to treat all electrical networks and equipment as electrically live at all times.

The metro apologises for any inconvenience caused.
