Metro blames maintenance backlog for delay

Residents tired of waiting for results from metro.

Water leaks continue to be a problem within Germiston, with residents becoming more and more frustrated.

The latest complaint, from an anonymous resident, claims that though the leak at the corner of High and Plantation roads was reported in December 2015, it had still not been fixed in January of this year.

This, despite promises from the metro that the leak would be repaired.

The GCN contacted the metro to find out what was causing the leak, why it was not repaired in December, when it was first reported, and why, despite numerous calls, it has still not been repaired?

“The leak was caused by a damaged water meter,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.

“There is a delay in the response time for queries due to a maintenance backlog, but the complaint has been attended to and a new meter fitted.”
