More security to be deployed to substation

Residents were once again affected by a power outage on Thursday.

On Thursday, Tedstoneville Extension One, Fishers’ Hill, Sunnyridge, Homestead, Gerdview, Dawnview and Primrose, the same suburbs affected by Monday’s power outage, were once again left in the dark.

The metro told the GCN that there had been an attempted theft of copper earth cables at the Germiston North Substation.

“The power was restored to the affected areas by 10.30am,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.

When asked why there were so many problems at this substation Gadebe said that there are continuous theft attempts at the substation.

“We are putting additional security guards at the substation to patrol day and night in order to prevent this from happening again.” Gadebe said.
