he Germiston City News was visited by a resident of the Kruinhof Flats, in Elandsfontein, recently.
The resident explained that several residents on the first floor had been left without water since Sunday, April 10, and that, despite numerous calls to the metro, nothing had been done to restore water to these flats.
They were forced to collect water from a downstairs tap and carry it upstairs in buckets.
The GCN visited the metro-run flats to talk to the residents, who said that the water problems had begun almost a year ago, when solar geysers were installed.
“Since the geysers were installed we have had continuous water interruptions and, for the past four months, we haven’t had hot water,” said one resident.
Residents claim they have spoken to the property’s management, however, their worries and complaints are often ignored.
“We want new management,” said several residents.
The GCN contacted ward councillor Ashley Rutherford, as well as the metro, to determine when water would be restored to the flats.
“The problem was due to water pressure which was too low to reach the 10 flats on the first floor, so the water valve was replaced,” Rutherford said.
”The technicians’ investigation revealed that the other people inside had water.
“It now seems that the problem was actually at the back of the complex, where the flats are, which are not supplied from Mocke Street.”
Residents reported that water has since been restored to the flats.
The metro had not responded at the time of publication.
