How well do you know your wors?
It’s that time of the year again, when Shoprite and Checkers ask South Africans to showcase their boerewors-making skills.
The Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors competition is back.
Entries for the 2016 competition are open until June 2.
After the introduction of a new competition structure, last year, when the public voted for their favourite recipe in a Top Three showdown, the competition is now even more exciting and challenging than ever before.
Entrants will get down to serious business to battle it out in six champion rounds, on July 2 and 9, in major city centres nationwide.
Eighteen contestants (three from each of these events) will be selected to compete in the final round, in Cape Town, on July 23, where the nation’s top three recipes will be chosen.
These will be available in-store for consumers to buy, braai and vote for, from August 19 to September 9.
The votes will be audited and the winner of the 2016 Championship Boerewors competition will be revealed on September 15.
Anyone with an exceptional, traditional boerewors recipe and the skills to make their boerewors from scratch is encouraged to enter.
Fantastic prizes are once again on offer, with SA’s Boerewors Champion standing in line to win the grand prize of a brand new Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD-6 Double Cab Raised Body Raider, as well as the honour of having their recipe crowned and sold as SA’s Best Boerewors.
There are also great prizes up for grabs from Coca-Cola, All Gold and Simba.
The South African Chefs Association (SACA), a recognised authority on food in South Africa, will take charge of the judging processes and will ensure that all entries adhere to the guidelines for making truly traditional boerewors.
Shoprite and Checkers are proud of SA’s boerewors tradition and celebrate it every year by hosting the Championship Boerewors competition.
The supermarket chains’ butcheries are famous for exceptional meat products and the group is always looking for new recipes and ideas in order to offer consumers the best in quality and variety.
The annual Championship Boerewors competition plays a pivotal role in helping the group to achieve this aim.
Boerewors enthusiasts are encouraged to join in the excitement and to submit their finest boerewors recipe to ensure that the best boerewors in South Africa can be found.
Entry details and more information about the competition can be found at www.championshipboerewors.co.za.
