EMPD nabs another 96 illegal immigrants

Operation Bumper to Bumper targets illegal immigrants in the CBD.

In its earnest effort to search, identify and apprehend those who are in the country illegally, the EMPD Bumper to Bumper special operation on Thursday, between 2pm and 10pm, booked in 96 illegal immigrants at the Germiston Police Station.

“The campaign is aimed at crime-ridden areas in Ekurhuleni, where crimes are suspected to be committed by some illegals.

“It is difficult to trace them in the event they are wanted suspects,” Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD said.

The latest operation concentrated on the Germiston CBD.

The 96 arrestees, who are aged between 19 and 52 and originating from Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, were booked in at the Germiston Police Station.

Six women were nabbed and 90 men.

The streets in which the arrests were made are Railway, Jack, Jonas, Plantation, President, Knox, High, Meyer and Victoria.

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of contravening Sections 34 (1) and 43 of the Immigration Act No.13 of 2002.
