Red Cross societies across the globe joined in the celebrations of World Red Cross Day on May 8. The day marks the beginning of the Red Cross Society and honours Henry Dunant, who founded the organisation. Dunant was born on May 8, 1828, in Geneva, Switzerland, and died on October 10, 1910, and the Red Cross Society celebrates his birthday each year. The Germiston branch of the Red Cross marked the day with a special celebration at their Driehoek offices on May 9.
