Deep Crossfit keeps Dawn Park residents fit

Free local community gym called Deep Crossfit hosted its first monthly fitness fun day recently, which saw young and old people in their gym attire ready to fight fat. The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the gym and its related activities

The purpose of the events was to raise funds for the gym and its related activities. D.E.E.P CROSSFIT as a community gym has been running for the past two years now. From its inception to this current period it has been self-funded and self managed not by its employees but by the members themselves. The gym is also an incubator for the community’s athletes.

“We are very pleased with the turnout. People woke up early when they could have been sleeping. People work hard during the week and that they have come out this Saturday morning to work hard for their health and wellbeing is very inspiring.,” added Zwelenkani Mdlalose, D.E.E.P CROSSFIT spokesperson.

The event aimed to foster community through group-based training. People participated in-group exercise activities guided by world-class fitness and wellbeing instructors. The exercise types that the participants were taken through included aerobic training; kickboxing, crossfit and yoga.

The only equipment used were their own bodies and in some instance each other’s bodies.

“This is symbolic of one of the foundational principles of the movement. That even when we have nothing we always have ourselves and each other.” concluded  Mdlalose:
