Man killed, another critical after microlight crash

Paramedics from various services responded to the scene of an microlight accident in Alrode.

One man was killed and another critically injured on Wednesday afternoon after their microlight crashed in a field on the corner of Langkloof and Rogers roads in Alrode, south of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found the wrecked aircraft in the middle of the field.

“Upon inspection, paramedics discovered that one patient, a man, had already succumbed to his multiple injuries.

“Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene,” said Russel Meiring, spokesman for ER24.

“The second patient was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries.

“Paramedics quickly began their treatment and provided the patient with advanced life support interventions.”

Once treated, the patient was transported to a private hospital for further treatment.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
