Ekurhuleni women appreciated

Women in Ekurhuleni’s employ were shown appreciation for all their hard work.

The metro joined in the festivities of Women’s Month recently, with celebrations to acknowledge and appreciate work done by women in what is perceived to be male dominated fields.

Women in KwaThema converged on the KwaThema community hall on August 25, to commemorate the life and times of Margaret Gazo, an anti-apartheid activist.

“The commemoration was aimed at reflecting on Gazo’s contribution to fighting unjust laws during the apartheid era,” said the metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.

“Women in Ekurhuleni’s transport and planning department took time to celebrate their work successes.”

Female bus drivers, administrators and tellers at the metro’s licensing division spent their Women’s Day sharing tips and empowering each other on financial management, health, fashion and skills development.

The Women in Waste Awards ceremony took place last Saturday, at the Victoria Hall, at Germiston Lake, for women in the waste management services, as a token of appreciation for the work they do daily.

Speaking at the prestigious awards, head of the women’s directorate in the mayor’s office Lindiwe Khonjelwayo encouraged women to never lose their sense of self-pride and to always fight for the rights of gender equality.

“We, as women, need to empower and encourage each other to always excel in all we do,” she said.

“It is every woman’s responsibility to up-skill herself through education.”
