Residents left distraught as water gushes from empty house

Water gushes from empty house in Haarlem Street.

Residents of Haarlem Street in Gerdview recently awoke to the sound of gushing water.

After investigating, they discovered that the water was coming from an empty house in the street.

With the on-going drought and water restrictions in mind, many of the residents called the metro’s call centre to report the problem, as they did not know how to contact the property’s owners.

After several calls, at regular intervals residents were unhappy that the metro had not come to assist.

The GCN contacted the metro to find out if the metro was aware of the problem and why with the water restrictions had the matter not been attended to?

The metro did not respond to the GCN’s queries. Instead, Themba Gadebe, the spokesman for the metro, simply stated that the matter had been seen to, two days after it was reported.
