An exposed electricity cable in Wadeville caused panic in Christian Dupre.
According to Dupre the cable had been exposed since August.
“The minute I noticed the cable, I reported it to the metro telephonically,” he said.
“Metro workers came to attend to it but upon their departure I discovered that the cable wasn’t completely covered.
“I then went to the customer care centre to report it again as at some point smoke was coming from the cable, which is extremely dangerous.”
Dupre said his complaint seemed to fall on deaf ears as the cable remained uncovered.
The GCN contacted the metro in an effort to resolve the problem.
“The reported electricity cable has been covered,” said the metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.
“There was no smoke witnessed while the team was covering the cable.”
Dupre confirmed that the metro’s second trip was successful in covering the cable.
“I am happy that the metro eventually heeded my call for the cable to be repaired; it wasn’t safe,” he explained.
“I was worried because there is a lot of power passing through that cable and it could’ve killed someone had it been left uncovered.”
