Dukathole residents have a new clinic

Mayor prioritises health care in the metro.

When Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina introduced 100 days of service delivery four months ago, he vowed to prioritise the health sector.

To this end, the mayor recently spearheaded the launch of three state-of-the-art clinics with 15 consultation rooms each.

They’re located in Dukathole, Khumalo and Tsietsi.

The Tsietsi Clinic is the first health facility erected in Tsietsi township.

It’ll relieve Tsietsi residents from travelling longer distances to other neighbouring townships, in order to access health services.

Community members in both townships welcomed the new health facilities.

Elisa Sithole (75), a resident of Tsietsi Extension Nine, said: “I appreciate what the Ekurhuleni metro has done for us; we used to travel long distances to access health services.

“That is something of the past now.

“I’ll now collect my high blood pressure pills from this new clinic, which is closer.

“The service is also good and the nurses are welcoming.”

“The city of Ekurhuleni has established 21 chronic medication pick up points in various areas around the region, to alleviate the limited access to chronic medication, which residents of Ekurhuleni are subjected to,” the mayor said.

“We committed ourselves to open eleven 24-hour clinics.

“We’ve already embarked on that service delivery path, however we’ll continue building health facilities in areas without them.

“Our main goal is to establish clinics that offer the same services as hospitals.”

During the course of the launch, the metro also took the opportunity to officially launch the e-verification and e-library apps.

These apps will be of great assistance to Ekurhuleni residents.

The e-verification app is introduced to verify if residents of Ekurhuleni have registered to be indigents, while the e-library offers residents an opportunity to read books and study free courses online.
