TK Stars excel at prize-giving ceremony

The Vosloorus-based football team TK Stars held their prize-giving ceremony on Sunday, December 11, at Mailula Park.

The players who were awarded were from the under-13, under-15, under-17 and Super Division teams which play in the Vosloorus Local Football Association, under SAFA.

According to the chairman of the team, Theophelus Khoza, the purpose of the awards was to encourage players to do better and to keep them off the streets, away from dangerous drugs.

“We want players to perform at their utmost best each time they are given an opportunity to play,” said Khoza.

Khoza also mentioned that their Super Division team lost their best goalkeeper simply because he lost interest in soccer.

The under-13 team awards went to the following players: Lesego Mahlasela (best goalkeeper), Andile Sithebe (best defender), Kagiso Mayinga (best midfielder, leading goal scorer and goal of the season) and Siphesihle Mkhwanazi (best striker).

The under-15 team awards went to the following players: Lesego Mahlasela (best goalkeeper), Mduduzi Ndaba (best defender), Sthembiso Hlatshwayo (best midfielder) and Tshepiso Jikeka (leading goal scorer, best striker and goal of the season).

The under-17 team awards went to the following players: Shaun Maphalala (best goalkeeper), Thapelo Sekhu (best defender), Joshua Mkhwanazi (best midfielder), Tshepo Jikeka (best striker), Lindokuhle Shongwe (leading goal scorer) and Mafa Muthupi (goal of the season).

The Super Division team awards went to the following players: Mongameli Vilakazi (best goalkeeper ), Thapelo Sekhu (best defender), Fezile Mtshali (best midfielder), Sibusiso Molotsi (best striker award), Muzi Shongwe (leading goal scorer) and Linda Sithole (goal of the season).

Motivational speakers during the day were Pastor Shakespeare Khonza and Palesa Jikeka, both of whom encouraged young players to make soccer their careers and advised them to stay away from drugs on the streets.

Overall team awards went to:

* Fezile Mtshali – good attitude

* Good participation and dedication – Sibusiso Molotsi

* Good attendance – Sphesihle Ngamla

* Skilful and hard-working player of the season – Promise Ncube

* Coach of the season – Kabelo Mahlangu

* Overall goal of the season – Mafa Muthuphi

* Overall leading goal scorer of the season – Tshepiso Jikeka

* Most improved player – Sthembiso Hlatshwayo

* Overall player of the season – Thapelo Sekhu

* Chairman’s Award – Sthembiso Hlatshwayo

* Players of the season – Joshua Mkwanazi.

Khoza also mentioned that he would like to take some of his best players to good soccer academies around the country.

“I would like to get all the kinds of sponsorship or donations that people might want to provide, so that I can help these talented young people’s dreams come true,” said Khoza.
