Campus After Hours to teach Africans culture

Campus After Hours will launch a new group from Ladysmith known as Osika Nhliziyo which is a mix of Maskandi albums on Saturday, February 11 at the Thokoza Auditorium (next to the Natalspruit Hospital and the Thokoza Police Station) from 11 am till 4pm.

The title track Ma Africa is a call to all Africans to wake up and appreciate our cultural heritage.

Various artists including Sakhumzi who sings Afro-Pop will also perform, and Zinnycated, a new hip hop artist who graduated from the University of Johannesburg, will treat her fans to a taste of her new CD known as ‘Krazy’.

The Ubuhle Benhlangano Traditional Dance Group is ready with their dance moves, which reminds us that when the African drums call the nation, a healthy body cannot sit down.

Ladysmith Khethokuhle, which sings traditional a cappella music (Isicathamiya) will perform songs from their new CD.

Prof Cosbie Mbele discovered these talented young people in different provinces. She lived in USA for 23 years where she lectured at the City University of New York for 10 years teaching anthropology and African civilization courses.

With the assistance of the former Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Ben Ngubane, she was able to initiate the Arts On Campus project partnered with the National Heritage Council.

Poems and speeches about history which was distorted during the colonialism period will be heard during the programme.

Students who have researched some topics about African civilization will also be visible.

Mbele’s book ‘Lady Africa in America” will be available, as will CDs of the artists who will perform.

Mbele, a winner of Shield Heritage Award in the category of Nation Living Treasure held several interviews on SABC TV. Her interviews on the Morning Live show can be viewed on www.cosbiembele.com. She’ll also perform some songs from her CDs “Let’s Unite” and “Wobuza”. Her book is published by Vivlia Publishers and can be ordered from Exclusive Book Stores.
