New film production company launched
“We also specialise in live recordings of artist’s songs. We put artists’ interests before business, unlike recording labels, where they put business ahead of the artists' interests,” said Dlamini.
Sgidla-Va Film Production was introduced to the community of Katlehong on Saturday, January 28.
The event took place at Revival Worship Ministries Church at the corner of Hlongwane Street, behind Sontonga Mall, in Katlehong.
Two other companies under Sgidla-Va Film Production were introduced on the same day: Unsigned Prime Entertainment, owned by Thokozani Dlamini, and It’s My Turn, owned by Siphelo Badela.
Dlamini explained to the community members who attended on the day what his company does.
“We specialise in unsigned artists. We teach artists about life and the challenges musicians face before they are signed on as professional musicians. We do that because we don’t want musicians to give up their careers just because of the challenges they face.
“We also specialise in live recordings of artist’s songs. We put artists’ interests before business, unlike recording labels, where they put business ahead of the artists’ interests,” said Dlamini.
Dlamini stressed that they are a small company but growing very fast.
Badela said his company, It’s My Turn, will soon be releasing a new TV show, in which he going to be a presenter.
Sgidla-Va Film Production is shooting a movie, The Step-father. Un-edited clips of the filrm were played during the day, to show the public what to expect. The movie will be televised on Mzansi Magic in March.
An excited Sakhile Mokoena, the founder and producer of Sgidla-Va Film Production, said most of the talented artists who are signed with his company are youth from the community.
“I want to empower youth and make sure that I put them in the limelight,” said Mokoena.
Sinalo Nombewu, who plays the role of a gangster in The Step-father, said it is good that in their township (Katlehong) they can do what other big townships do.
Thomas Mokoena, who was the speaker of the day, encouraged the youth to support small companies from the township.
He also encouraged the Sgidla-Va Film Production crew to continue their good work for the community. “There is potential in you,” he said.
