After receiving an anonymous tip-off Primrose police rushed to the Makause informal settlement on Sunday February 5.
“Officers were told that there was a 28-year-old man hanging around outside a local tuck shop, with a firearm.
“The anonymous source had become concerned by the man’s suspicious behaviour,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
Police quickly found the man fitting the given description and asked to search him.
During the search officers found a loaded firearm and asked for the man’s gun licence.
“He could not give officers a licence for the firearm and was arrested,” said Maome.
The Primrose police’s station commander Col Albertina Vesi thanked the member of the community who gave officers the tip-off and encouraged the community to become more involved in the fight against crime.
The suspect will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
