Makause man found with illegal firearm
Man arrested after being found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Makause informal settlement.
After receiving a tip-off from community members in the Makause informal settlement, recently, about a man harassing people with a firearm, Primrose police rushed to the scene.
When officers arrived they quickly located a 30-year-old man who fitted the description given by the informants.
“The man was searched and police found a firearm and five rounds of ammunition in his possession.
“He was unable to produce a licence for the firearm,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
The man was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station where he was formally charged.
The Primrose police’s station commander, Col Albertina Vesi, thanked the members of the community for coming forward with the information and the officers for responding timeously before the situation escalated.
The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for a bail application.
