Church holds Mother’s Day celebration

Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa, Ebenezer branch, in Vosloorus, held a Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday, May 14.

The celebration was organised by male church members to show love to their mothers, wives and daughters.

They also catered for them.

Rev Lebohang Molokoane came up with the idea.

At 8am the fathers cooked soup for the mothers. They also wore aprons when the service took place at 10am.

The theme of the day was ‘Mother’s Love’. During the service, passages from the Bible, Ruth 1 v 15 – 18 and Acts 9 v 35 – 38, were read.

Molokoane spoke about five types of mothers:

*The perfectionist mother – her children don’t succeed in life because they get everything.

*The unpredictable mother – her children have the skills of reading everyone’s mind because their mother changes her mind all the time.

*The best-friend mother – her children know a lot about life because their mother tells them the truth.

*The me-first mother – she dresses smart but when you get where she stays, her children are not as stunning as she is.

*The complete mother – she does not have everything but her children don’t want to disappoint her, because of her good teachings. They excel at school because they want to please their mothers.

After the service the cake was cut by senior church member Neria Mazibuko.

Children also gave thanks to their mothers by singing for them.

Dudu Lukhele, a church member, thanked Rev Molokoane for coming up with the idea.

“It was so amazing to see male members of the church showing their love by catering for their wives, mothers and children. Female members felt very special,” said Lukhele.

She said fathers need to continue with the kind of love and care they had shown their wives.

“It must not end today. It must continue 365 days of the year,” said Lukhele.

Rev Molokoane gave presents to the female church members on behalf of the church.
