During a recent Primrose police operation, three illegal taverns were closed down, their owners, aged between 20 and 47, arrested and volumes of alcohol confiscated.
The operation was held in the Makause informal settlement, as part of the station’s ongoing efforts to stop the illegal sale of alcohol.
The taverns were identified during a foot patrol of the area.
“Officers witnessed community members purchasing alcohol at each of the taverns.
“When they approached the owners and asked for their liquor licences, none were able to provide one,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
The suspects, charged with selling liquor without a licence, were taken to the Primrose Police Station where they each paid an admission of guilt fine and were released.
The alcohol confiscated during the operation will be destroyed.
