A 30-year-old man, from Katlehong South, was allegedly robbed of his money and clothes and left stranded in Eden Park, recently.
The man told police that he boarded a taxi at the Natalspruit Taxi Rank and was travelling to Ramokonopi West when the incident occurred.
“When the taxi arrived in Ramokonopi West the driver allegedly did not stop, instead he kept driving to Eden Park.
“Once there the driver allegedly stopped the taxi close to some bushes,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, Katlehong corporate communications official.
The 27-year-old taxi driver allegedly pointed a gun at the man and ordered him out of the vehicle, and with the help of a 19-year-old woman, searched him, taking R3 050 in cash, his driver’s licence, passport and clothes.
The victim was then left in the bushes.
“The man was able to get the registration number of the taxi before it drove away.
“Furthermore, he remembered the name of the driver and gave all of the information to police to assist in their investigation,” said Ndobe.
Katlehong South Police Station detectives traced the taxi driver to Katlehong North and the woman to Silumaview and both were arrested and charged with armed robbery.
“The suspects may be charged with kidnapping, pending further investigation,” said Ndobe.
The pair will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
