Mayor wants a university in Ekurhuleni

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina has called upon business to support the call for the establishment of a university in the metro.

In his comments at the recent Manufacturing Indaba, he placed emphasis on the need for skills development in order to drive the manufacturing industry.

“Ekurhuleni is the only metro in the world that doesn’t have a university. Given the industrial nature of the Ekurhuleni economy, it’s not a sustainable status quo.

“We need engineers, innovators and specialists in the field of aviation, logistics and manufacturing. A university is no longer a matter to converse on, we must start the journey towards building the institution,” Masina said while addressing the Manufacturing Indaba.

“As the region of Ekurhuleni we will make submissions in the upcoming ANC national policy conference for the university establishment to become part of resolutions in the policy conference; as it requires buy in from the National Department of Higher Education and other major stakeholders across the country.”
