Graduates have a bright future

Thuto Mfundo Adult College, in Zulu section in Vosloorus, held a graduation ceremony on its premises on October 13 for students who attended the Clothing Manufacturing Processes (level 1) course.

Students aged from 23 to 75 attended the course from January 2016 to July 2017.

Gomotso Mdlalose, one of the students, spoke to Kathorus MAIL about the experience they gained while attending the course.

“We learnt how to sew and design clothes and curtains from scratch.

“We will use the experience we gained during the course to start our own businesses. We can enter business individually or we can form a co-operative. But most of us prefer the co-operative route, because it can easily attract sponsors,” said Mdlalose.

She said others have already started their own businesses.

“The graduation attire we wore on the day was sewn by them.”

Lindiwe Latha, the course teacher, said the students were good.

“It was easy to teach them. One could not tell that there were students who were above 70 years of age in the class. I enjoyed each and every minute of teaching them,” said Latha.

Latha explained how she managed to get the best out of her students.

“I had to group them and mix young and old in each and every group, so that the young students could assist the older ones,” Latha said.

She said even the students commented that they had learnt many skills that are going to help them.
