Man nabbed for rape

Primrose police warn the community against the dangers of walking in the dark.

A 33-year-old man was recently arrested by the Primrose police for alleged rape.

It is reported that the alleged rape took place in the Makause informal settlement in September.

“The victim told officers, when opening a case at the Primrose Police Station, that she was walking home with her boyfriend from a local tavern, late one night when they were approached by two men.

“The men separated the couple and the accused allegedly dragged the woman to his shack,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The suspect allegedly forced himself on the victim.

“The man allegedly fell asleep which allowed the victim an opportunity to escape,” said Maome.

Using the description given by the victim, officers were able to trace and arrest the man.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for a bail application.

“We are once again appealing to the community, especially women in the informal settlement, to refrain from walking around when it is dark as this can make residents vulnerable to crime,” said Maome.
