Fresh from her December break, Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Plaskitt feels optimistic for 2018.
Besides being ready to tackle new challenges Plaskitt has a number of projects she hopes to achieve this year.
Many of her projects have the community’s well being in mind.
At the top of her list is to ensure the construction of a fire station in Klopper Park.
“Klopper Park’s closest fire station is either in Germiston or in Edenvale,” Plaskitt said.
“By having a fire station in the area the response time in emergency situations should be reduced.”
It will cater for the Klopper Park, Tunney, and Elandsfontein areas.
Second on Plaskitt’s list is the rehabilitation and maintenance of stormwater servitudes in her ward.
“A number of servitudes are either silting up or are deteriorating,” she said.
One example of servitudes deteriorating in Plaskitt’s ward is the channel running parallel to Beverley Avenue.
Water has eroded the channel and concrete lining the channel has broken away.
Towards the end of 2017, a tree fell over the channel and has partially blocked the flow of water.
Plaskitt said she will work closely with the metro to see the stormwater servitudes are rehabilitated and maintained.

Last but not least Plaskitt hopes to tackle illegal dumping in the Meadowdale area.
“Everything from plant cuttings to household refuse is just dumped on the sides of roads,” said Plaskitt.
“Not only does it look bad but it can also pose a health risk to residents.”
Plaskitt believes vermin carrying diseases would be drawn closer to suburban areas by illegally dumped household refuse. She said community members need to report illegal dumping.
To report illegal dumping while it is happening contact EMPD on 011 458 0911.
Alternatively, contact the municipality’s call centre on 0860 543 000.
“I look forward to working together with the community this year,” Plaskitt said.
