Firefighters quell blaze at Elsburg house

Church and CPF gather donations for victims of house fire.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from Germiston Central Fire Station raced to a house fire on the corner of Els and Marais streets in Elsburg last Tuesday.

They arrived on scene at about 11.56am.

“As per operational procedures, back-up was immediately requested from the Boksburg Central Fire Station prior to their arrival on the scene,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“Upon the teams’ arrival on the scene, an assessment was made and it was found that the shack which was built attached to the main house was engulfed by flames and the flames were already spreading to the main house.”

The firefighters at once went on the offensive and the flames were contained without any further damage to the structure or injuries to the residents or firefighters.

“Part of the roof and the ceiling had to be opened to make sure that no hidden flames in between the two were left unattended,” said Ntladi.

“After the completion of the operation, an inspection was conducted and a missing puppy was found dead in the house due to smoke inhalation.

“The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under investigation.”

After the fire the community opened their hearts to the affected people and donations streamed in.

No Limits Church, assisted by the Elsburg Sector One CPF, collected clothing, food and household items for the fire victims.

The goods were handed to them during the week.
