The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Clr Mzwandile Masina announced to the Hope Restoration Church in Chloorkop near Kempton Park last Sunday that the Germiston Art Theatre will be named after the slain artist Dumi Masilela.
The former Rhythm City actor was killed when he was hijacked in Tembisa in August 2017.
Masina brought officials from various city departments with him to the church to showcase the metro’s service delivery programmes.
Among the programmes that the congregants were told about was new water reticulation infrastructure in Ekurhuleni to replace the aging system.
The new water infrastructure will result in the interconnection of Ekurhuleni towns’ water systems.
The mayor said the church visit was part of an ongoing programme to engage religious communities for social cohesion.

“Churches are an integral part of our society.
“There must always be an opportunity for dialogue so that society can self-correct using the values and teachings of the church,” Masina said.
He called on residents to continue to visit their local municipal offices to register to vote or to verify their registration status.
Senior pastor at the Hope Restoration Church Chris Mathebula said churches cannot make an impact on the community without partnerships with other stakeholders such as government.
