Man to spend 20 years behind bars for murder

Sgt Sam Ngqoleka was commended for his efforts, which helped the Primrose police secure a murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm conviction.

Given Manjeya (41) will spend 20 years behind bars after being found guilty of murder and two counts of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Detective at the Primrose Police Station Sgt Sam Ngqoleka, who arrested Manjeya for the crimes in 2016, was commended for his hard work and dedication to the case which proved instrumental in securing the conviction.

Manjeya was found guilty and sentenced in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder and five years for each count of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The sentences will run concurrently, which means he will spend 20 years behind bars, in addition to being declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Primrose SAPS’ acting station commander Lt Col Mbazima Maswanganyi thanked Ngqoleka for his hard work and dedication and encouraged others to learn from his example.

“Convictions like this will send a clear message to criminals that they cannot run away from the long arm of the law.

“If you commit a crime we will hunt you until you are brought to books,” she said.
