Domestic workers urged not to open the door for strangers

Domestic workers warned not to open the door to anyone they do not know – unless they have instructions from their employers.

During the month of April, the Germiston police have had an increase in the number of house break-ins and robberies.

“In a number of cases the suspects gained access to the properties when domestic workers opened the doors and/or gates for them.

“A number of the domestic workers reported that the suspects claimed to be agents from the metro, tax office or from Telkom.

“Domestic workers get convinced by the criminals and they open the doors and gates for the criminals,” said Capt George Raphulu, communications head for the Germiston SAPS.

Once they have entry to the home they rob the house.

The Germiston SAPS is, therefore, urging employers to inform their employees when they are expecting someone for repairs or to call them before letting anyone into the property.
