Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston hosted their much-loved annual Ahgie-festival last Saturday.
The festival, which boasts huge support from the community, was held on the school’s sports grounds.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) headed preparations by erecting tents that stood firm despite the strong winds.
Children of all age groups had a wide range of activities available for them to partake in while food, crafts and beverage stalls catered for all.
An array of items like jewellery, plants, ornaments and wooden crafts were available, as well as a shaded tea garden for one to put their feet up after a stroll around the grounds.
Heavenly Flowers Private School set the stage alight and kept the crowd buzzing with their Mr and Miss Heavenly Flowers 2018 competition.
Dinky Dolly Nursery School was also there in support of the school and occupied the programme with a number of events including tag rugby.

“The support from the community is always overwhelming and we appreciate it.
“Mike’s Kitchen Lambton sponsored us with meat and rolls and they had their own food stall as well.
“The South African National Defence Force erected all the tents and helped us arrange and place stalls.
“Between 2 500 and 3 000 people joined us in having fun this year,” said Retha du Toit, the school’s principal.
The open-mic session allowed talented singers to take to the stage, followed by a dance battle, where Heaven Thomas and Sasha Moyo performed an entertaining and vigorous dance routine.
Adding to the fun was a show by a Volkspele group and dog shows by Paws, and the EMPD K9 Unit.

The festival’s security was satisfying as the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF and local SAPS were spotted among the crowd.
Artwork by Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston’s learners was on sale and just like the cakes in the tea-garden, Michaela Potgieter’s work proved popular and sold fast.
“The artworks stall was a fan-favourite this afternoon.
“I’m glad people could appreciate the work done by our learners and pay good money for the pieces we put out,” said Retha.
“We had a successful festival.”
