Two detained in Elsburg following anonymous tip-off

An anonymous call to the Elsburg police led to the arrest of two suspects in Elsburg.

Members of the Elsburg SAPS Task Team were on a routine patrol, at about 11.30am last Friday, when they received an anonymous tip-off about an unfamiliar group of men loitering at Kingfisher Square.

The source informed the police that six men driving in a sky blue Honda Ballade had parked the car at the centre in the morning and were frequently going to the Pick n Pay and back with only cold drinks being bought.

The officers tactically approached them and managed to arrest two suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms.

One firearm’s serial number had been filed off and it was discovered that the other firearm had been surrendered.

“The suspects, aged between 30 and 38, will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.
