Firearm seized during arrest, to be sent for ballistic testing

Katlehong police arrested a 28-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

During a Katlehong Crime Prevention Unit stop-and-search operation on Wednesday, officers arrested a 28-year-old man.

The man, who was arrested in the Mngadi Section of Katlehong, was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“Officers found the weapon in the man’s possession when they searched him – after they observed him behaving suspiciously.

“The 9mm pistol, with its serial number filed away, and six rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the arrest,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to see if it can be linked to any crimes in the area.

The suspect will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
