Three illegal taverns closed in Primrose

Primrose police aim to curb the illegal sale of alcohol in their precinct.

The Primrose police recently closed down three illegal taverns and confiscated thousands of litres of alcohol in the Makause informal settlement.

“During a stop-and-search operation in the informal settlement, officers noticed community members purchasing alcohol at three different addresses,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“They stopped at and observed each establishment for a while before entering and asking each establishment’s owner for their liquor licence.”

When the owners were unable to provide police with their licences they were arrested, charged with dealing in liquor without a licence, and their tavern closed down.

The accused, aged between 27 and 30 years old, were detained at the Primrose Police Station.

Two were released after paying admission of guilt fines while the third appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and was released on a warning.
