The Primrose police recently arrested two men, both 28 years old, for theft out of a motor vehicle.
The pair were handed over to police by community members.
“The complainant told police when they arrived on scene that he had parked his vehicle in the Makause informal settlement, near Stanley Road, and gone into a nearby shack to sleep.
“He was awoken by a call from his vehicle’s tracking service to inform him the power in his vehicle was low,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“He claimed he called a friend who stayed close to where his vehicle was parked to check on the vehicle.”
The man’s friend reportedly told him there were three men near the vehicle.
“He asked the friend to keep an eye on the men while he fetched the police,” said Maome.
When he arrived on the scene, with officers from the Primrose Police Station, his friend and a neighbour had apprehended two of the men, while the third managed to escape.

“During an inspection of the vehicle it was discovered the battery was missing,” said Maome.
The suspects were handed over to the police.
“We thank the members of the community for not taking the law into their own hands and handing the suspects over without injuries,” Maome said.
The accused have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed for plea and trial.
