Officers from Ekurhuleni West SAPS Cluster police stations made 96 arrests during several weekend operations.
The operations, including stop-and-searches and roadblocks, were held throughout the cluster by Crime Prevention Unit and Visible Policing Unit members between November 2 and 4.
The Ekurhuleni West Cluster is made up of the Bedfordview, Primrose, Germiston, Elsburg, Alberton, Brackendowns, Katlehong North, Thokoza, Eden Park, Vosloorus, Zonkizizwe and Katlehong police stations.

The accused were charged with various offences.
Charges included murder, rape, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, contravening a court order, shoplifting, robbery, common assault, domestic violence, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, warrant of arrest, hijacking, house robbery, business robbery, house break-in, intimidation, trespassing, reckless and negligent driving, perjury and driving under the influence of alcohol.
EMPD officers, who assisted in the weekend’s operations, also issued a number of fines to motorists and encouraged the community to drive safely.

In addition, police searched for several missing people and reminded the community that there is no waiting period to report a person as missing.
All of the arrested suspects appeared in either the Germiston, Vosloorus or Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Courts where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
