Primrose SAPS closes four illegal taverns in Primrose

Primrose police closed another four illegal taverns during a weekend operation.

The Primrose police continued their efforts to stop the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose’s informal settlements with a police operation.

The operation, conducted last weekend, saw officers visit all three of the areas informal settlements, namely Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements.

“Police entered the informal settlements on foot and observed residents buying alcohol at four different taverns,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“Each of the owners was asked for a liquor licence, which they could not give to police.”

The owner of each establishment was arrested.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 35 years, were charged with selling liquor without a licence.

The suspects were detained at the Primrose Police Station where three paid an admission of guilt fine before being released.

The final suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed.

The large amounts of alcohol confiscated from each tavern during the operation were taken to the Primrose Police Station, where it will be destroyed at a later stage.
