Six speedsters arrested in Germiston and Boksburg over the weekend

Speeding was in the spotlight once again for EMPD officers last weekend.

The EMPD High-Speed Unit arrested six motorists on Saturday and Sunday in two separate operations.

The first was conducted between 6am and 11am on Saturday on North Reef Road in Germiston and the second took place from 10pm on Saturday night until 4am on Sunday morning on Atlas Road, between Mercury and Elizabeth roads, in Boksburg.

The Germiston operation on North Reef Road, between George Allen and Germiston roads, yielded four speedsters caught doing speeds of between 92km/h and 101km/h in this 60km/h zone.

The arrested drivers were all males, ranging in age between 22 and 52 years old, driving in three sedans and one light delivery van.

All the arrestees claimed they were late for work.

The four drivers were charged at the Bedfordview Police Station with reckless and negligent driving.

They were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Boksburg operation netted two male drivers, aged 33 and 35, driving sedans.

They were caught doing 130km/h and 106km/h in this 70km/h zone.

They both claimed they were in a hurry to get home.

They were charged at the Boksburg Police Station with reckless and negligent driving and were expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
