Young scientists go viral on Twitter
Two learners go viral on Twitter after masses learn of their innovation to battle load-shedding.
Two Ekurhuleni learners won the hearts of Twitter users last week after a tweet about their innovation to battle load-shedding was shared by more than a thousand users.
The tweet by @HeSouthAfrica featured Jabulo Ndlovu and Vusi Musi, Grade Six learners at Fountain Five Primary School, Ratanda, showcasing their Lighting Bag at the Eskom Expo Ekurhuleni Regional Science Fair held last year in Germiston.
The tweet from last Tuesday had received 1 337 retweets and 2 964 likes by last Friday morning.
It is currently on 1 351 retweets and 2 990 likes.

Jabulo and Vusi created the bag after experiencing load-shedding and power outages in their area.
The bag, which lights up, enables learners to do their homework when there is no electricity available.
“It is commendable that learners are trying to find solutions to issues that are personally affecting their lives,” said Krishnie Naidoo, Eskom Expo academic director.
“This innovation is of value to these young scientists who were only in Grade Six at the time.
“The idea is very simplistic and can be easily dismissed by adults, but the idea was born from an issue that directly impacts their lives, which led them to seek a solution to this problem.
“The Eskom Expo supports these innovations by learners who are becoming role models to their peers and finding resolutions to contemporary problems they face in their communities.
“We continue to provide a platform for learners to increase their awareness and knowledge of the wonders of science and also hope to broaden their scientific horizons and encourage them to pursue careers in the sciences by igniting a passion for innovation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
