While on a routine patrol in Knights officers from the Primrose Police Station received a report that two men were allegedly attempting to steal copper cables in the area.

“They rushed to the address given, which was close to the Waverley Care Centre, and found two men, aged 19 and 24, allegedly attempting to dig up the copper cables,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
Both men were arrested on a charge of tampering with essential infrastructure.
“Our community must refrain from digging up and stealing copper cables as the theft of this vital resource can have a serious impact on the lives of people in the area,” said Maome.
“Hospitals and other healthcare facilities cannot perform major operations when there is no electricity and some patients may lose their lives.”

Both suspects were detained at the Primrose Police Station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
