“While we are speaking out about gender-based violence, some are still giving the outcry the cold shoulder,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
Recently, the Primrose police arrested two men, aged 21 and 30, each on a separate charge of domestic violence.

The first incident was reported in Abelia Road, Primrose Hill.
“The complainant alleged that she arrived home and found that her 21-year-old son had blocked the door with a fridge and locked the door,” said Maome.
“She forced her way into the home and found her son to ask him why he had blocked the door.
“He allegedly pushed and strangled her, while calling her names.”
The incident was reported to the Primrose police and the suspect was arrested.

The second incident was reported in Fifth Street, Wannenburg.
“The complainant alleged that she received a call from her aunt who told her that she was allegedly being assaulted by her uncle,” explained Maome.
“She claimed she rushed to the scene and when she arrived found her uncle, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, assaulting her aunt.
“She reportedly tried to separate them, but her uncle allegedly became furious and slapped her.”
She called the police to report the matter and the 30-year-old suspect was arrested.
Both suspects were held at the Primrose Police Station pending their appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
