A number of Germiston suburbs were plunged into darkness this afternoon (Thursday, January 16) after an alleged transformer trips.
The areas include:
- Sunnyridge
- Solheim
- Symhurst
- Wannenburg
- Gerdview
- Homestead
- Rustsvia

“Metro technicians are on site and power should be restored to the affected areas by 4pm today,” said Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan.
The outage comes after multiple faults on a 33 000 volt cable plunged a number of other Germiston suburbs, including Wadeville, Buhle Park, Rondebult and Roodekop, into darkness earlier in the day.
