Letter to the editor
I wish to congratulate Kathorus MAIL for following this story over the past decade.
I read with great interest the story of retrenched old Germiston Town Council workers who have engaged the police to recover their unpaid pension funds.
Your reporter’s tenacity seems to have finally paid dividends. We need more bold and daring community reporters to unearth much of the rot that has left many communities poor.
Failure to ensure that all monies owed to the retrenched former employees were paid in full borders on dishonesty and fraud. I think the private investigator in charge of the case should be congratulated for sharing it with the police.
It actually hurts to read that many of these former municipal employees have since died and now their children have taken up the battle to recover the money owed to their late parents. I take my hat off to the private investigator Mr Thabo Buzwa for his lone battle for justice for the underprivileged.
