Resident raises concerns over food parcel shortages
According to Nyathi, since the food parcels are issued by Sassa’s department of social services, each and every food parcel is carefully counted and monitored.
Several community members of Ward 62 in Vosloorus have approached Kathorus MAIL to help them reach out to their ward councillor about food parcel shortages in the area.
A resident representative and local resident’s committee in Mandela Park Extension Two, Zukile Nkohla, who also represents indignant families and the elderly in the community, contacted the newspaper and complained about the unavailability of food parcels in their area. Nkohla accused the ward councillor of ignoring their appeals for help.

“We were promised food parcels after registering with the ward councillor, but when the food parcels arrived they were not enough for all of us,” Nkohla said.
Contacted for comment, the ward councillor Bookie Nyathi disputed the allegations leveled against him by Nkohla and accused him of not be honest in his allegations. Nyathi, in turn, told Kathorus MAIL the food parcels that were delivered were according to the figures given to his office by the same community representatives, which was 780,” said Nyathi who explained that due to the restrictions in the number of people who can gather in one place at the same time, not all the food parcels could be handed out.
“The police were becoming angry with us and saying we are violating the restrictions by having so many people gathering in one place at the same time,” said Nyatha.
